Nigeria does not have a problem of unemployment but.....-Dr. Yemi-Esan

The Head of Service of the Federation, Dr. Folashade Omlara Yemi-Esan has declared that the foundation of economic growth lies in the quality of products of educational institutions in Nigeria.

Dr. Yemi Esan made this declaration on Tuesday at the 2023 convocation lecture of the University of Ibadan titled Promoting the Culture of Meritocracy: A Panacea for National Development in Ibadan, Oyo state, Nigeria.
''We don't have a problem of unemployment, but most of our graduates are unemployable. The foundation of economic growth is from the students we produce. I know the University of Ibadan has maintained a high standard of meritocracy, past and present. But our educational system is bedeviled with a lot of problems: sex-for-marks, project mercenaries, and decaying infrastructure.''
''For the nation to produce the best brains, it is important for preference to be given to the most qualified. The Nigerian educational system should reflect quality and competence. Meritocracy is the distinctive factor between developed and underdeveloped countries. Additionally, a country that is governed by the best and the brightest has a higher rate of economic growth than those that do not. In Africa, we are yet to imbibe the culture of meritocracy and if we have, it has not been documented. In countries where promotions are politicized, civil servants focus on pleasing superiors. We are working with the Federal Civil Service Commission to reinstate examination before employment. The fact that there are no examinations has taken a toll on the civil service. Examinations bring out the best. We are committed to changing the narrative of who knows who. I always believe in doing things on merit,'' the Head of Service concluded.

Nigerians are not feeling the Developmental impact of Taxes-Comrade Emelieze

Millions of Nigerians are not feeling the impact of the multiple taxes collected by the government at all levels.

This assertion was made by a former chairman of the Oyo state council of the Trade Union Congress(TUC), Comrade Andrew Emelieze.
''It is quite unfortunate that millions of Nigerians who pay income and various other taxes are not feeling the developmental impact of these taxes. Majority of those who pay taxes are not given tax certificates and there is no tax rebate. It is as if taxation is all about the extortion of Nigerians. The benefits of the taxes government collects are not visible,'' Comrade Emelieze stated.
In his view, the chairman of the Non-Academic Staff Union and Associated Institutions(NASU) University College Hospital(UCH) Ibadan branch, Comrade Kehinde Abiona agrees that the impact of the taxes collected are not felt by workers saying,''the taxes workers pay must count, it is statutory for workers to pay taxes, unless there is a taxes relief or tax holiday, the situation will remain the same. When the government collects taxes let the people feel the impact.''

In these challenging times, lawlessness and criminality continue to linger as those in charge pretend not to be aware.

On Thursday 9th November 2023 at about 9.30 am in the morning at 3, Kehinde Aderibigbe Street, Olorunsogo, Molete, Ibadan, Oyo state, a lawyer with phone number-08053721344- alongside four thugs made an abortive attempt to serve a harmless citizen a letter in the midst of intimidation and threats from the thugs. However, the citizen bluntly refused to accept the letter.
This development was trailed by unthinkable actions of four operatives of the Nigeria Legion Corps of Commissionaires, who supervised the damaging of the padlocks of the two gates to the house and the pulling down of the doors of three flats in the building and making away with all the locks, two chains, and padlocks.
However, it is curious that the assailants opted to forcefully convey the only occupant of the building to the Iyaganku Central Police Station on a motorcycle after they concluded the lawless act.
At the police station, they were told by a senior female police officer that Olorunsogfo, Molete was not within the station's jurisdiction.
This turn of events made them quickly seek the assistance of the administrative officer of the Iyagnaku Area Command.
Sadly, at the administrative officer's office, threats, intimidation, and warnings were tools used by all those present to persuade the harmless citizen to sign an agreement, which he politely refused.
For so long, those in charge of law and order have acted contrary to what the law states in issues concerning members of the public, this has indeed made millions of Nigerians lose confidence in the law enforcement agencies.

1 Thessalonians 5: 18
2Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever.
3Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.
4One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts.
5I will speak of the glorious honour of thy majesty, and of thy wondrous works.
6And men shall speak of the might of thy terrible acts: and I will declare thy greatness.
7They shall abundantly utter the memory of thy great goodness, and shall sing of thy righteousness.
8The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.
9The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.
10All thy works shall praise thee, O LORD; and thy saints shall bless thee.

Sadly, a number of those in religion have not helped matters by focusing mainly on prosperity for selfish interests.
Anointing and blessings for questionable characters mouth-watering fees now dominate the space, just as doctrines are twisted to suit their diabolic design.

Proverbs 3 : 1-12
1My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: 2For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee. 3Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: 4So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man. 5Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 7Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. 8It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. 9Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: 10So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine. 11My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction: 12For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

The Lord's Expectation from Us

The Lord's expectation from us does not go beyond what we have to offer. However, He wants us to be faithful and render quality service from our maximum ability and capacity.
Romans 12 : 1-21
1I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. 3For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. 4For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: 5So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. 6Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; 7Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; 8Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness. 9Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. 10Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; 11Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; 12Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; 13Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality. 14Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not. 15Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. 16Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits. 17Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. 18If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. 19Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. 20Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. 21Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

Workers should have unhindered access to all their funds in PFAs on retirement-Labor Leader

The Federal Government has been called upon to carry out a review of the laws on the contributory pensions scheme in favor of workers.
This call was made by the chairman of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria(MHWUN), University College Hospital(UCH) branch, Ibadan, Nigeria, Comrade Simeon Ibekwe.
''Talking about the opposition to the contributory pension scheme, the perspective has to do with the fact that workers can only access a certain percentage of their funds while the other percentage remains with the Pension Funds Administrators(PFA). They don't have to dictate to us how we will use our money. I wish the government would review the law and set it aside. Once workers retire, they should collect all their money,'' Comrade Ibekwe stated.
Similarly, the chairman of the Non-Academic Staff Union and Associated Institutions(NASU) UCH branch, Comrade Kerhinde Abiona has advised workers to change their PFAs if they discover that their service delivery is not satisfactory.
''The window for people to move around is open. If any worker is not satisfied with his or her PFA such a worker can move. PFAs must sit tight, they know that anytime you can move your Retirement Savings Account(RSA, Comrade Abiona stated. -
Zone Deputy Senate President to South East-Group to APC
- By solomon2day
- On 26/08/2023
- In News
Any attempt made by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress(APC) not zone the position of the Senate President to the South East geo-political zone will amount to injustice.
This position was made known recently, by a Non Governmental Organization(NGO) Justice for Peace Advocacy of Nigeria(JUPAN).
According to the National President of JUPAN, Mr. Austin Okezie ''
“We are pleading with the leadership of the APC to do justice and zone the position of deputy Senate President to the Southeast, because doing otherwise is going to be a day light injustice against this region''.
“We are urging, we are pleading with the powers that be; ranging from President Muhammadu Buhari, the APC Chairman, the APC National Leader, Sen. Bola Tinubu, Senators-elect, all stakeholders, to do justice by zoning the post to the Southeast.
“We are pleading and calling on all well-meaning Nigerians to join in this agitation for the sake of justice and peace,”
''What the party is supposed to do is to encourage this region by giving them the post of deputy Senate President. If the party does otherwise, it will do more harm to the country than good''.
“So, Southeast must not be denied this position; we are calling on the President to use his prerogative to make sure justice is done because we know he is a President that promotes Justice, equity and fairness.
“In the interest of equity, justice and fairness, we are asking that the post of deputy senate president should be zoned to the Southeast,” Mr. Okezie concluded
