Federal workers protest slave wages in Ibadan
- By solomon2day

Workers under the aegis of the Federal Workers Forum (FWF) on Tuesday protested the prevailing insecurity and economic hardships in Nigeria.
The workers, led by the National Coordinator of the forum, Comrade Andrew Emelieze, shut the two entry points into the Federal Secretariat, Ikolaba, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria.
However, workers were noticed moving in and out of the secretariat through the pedestrian entry point—devoid of harassment, intimidation, and attacks. Even though the heavy presence of law enforcement operatives may have partially undermined the workers protest.
Comrade Emelieze lamented that the situation of the workers "is horrible; workers are going through hell. That is why we are protesting to press home our demands.''
''The government promised us a living wage; the government now converted it to a slave wage. We are workers, not slaves.'' Most workers in Nigeria have been dehumanized and no longer perform their duties in the right frame of mind.'' Comrade Emelieze concluded.

John Kenneth Galbraith, a popular American economist, put forward the theory that condign power wins submission by the ability to impose an alternative to the preferences of the individual or group that is sufficiently unpleasant or painful so that these preferences are abandoned.
The preference for condign power rather than compensatory power is now the issue; for those who are saddled with the responsibility of protecting lives and property -a reasonable number of them are now instruments of social destruction.

Nigeria is good at formulating policies-Education Commissioner

The government at all levels in Nigeria is confronted with the major challenge of the implementation of well-formulated policies.
May 2025 Admissions ongoing @ MIVA OPEN UNIVERSITY
This assertion was made on Thursday by the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology in Oyo State, Prof. Salihu Abdulwaheed Adelabu, at a one-day stakeholders' engagement meeting on the implementation of the National Education Quality Assurance Policy (NEQAP) in Ibadan, Nigeria.
''What are we implementing? Nigeria is good at formulating policies. We formulate very good policies, and for other countries, but implementation is the problem. How are we standardizing our education policy issues? We want our children to access quality qualityeducation, there is no way they can access quality education without a good quality assurance policy,'' the commissioner stated.
Prof. Adelabu noted that academic qualifications alone were not enough to become a class teacher, saying, "Having an NCE or BSc. is not enough to become a class teacher. A cultist cannot become a class teacher. Not less than five were wrongly given appointment letters; we have withdrawn them.''

Earlier in her welcome address, the director/coordinating evaluator at the Quality Assurance Department of the Federal Ministry of Education in the state, Mrs. Abimbola Odeleye, stressed the need for the active participation of all stakeholders in the sector to foster accountability.
''We should not seek shortcuts but merit-based performance. Let us ensure that the education system in Oyo State provides quality education. Let us adopt a strategy that will improve education,'' Mrs. Odeleye advised.
Similarly, the representative of the chairman of the State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB), the executive secretary of the board, Mrs. Ladipo, maintained that all children ought to access quality education, saying, ''Every child deserves quality education that will empower them to reach their full potentials."
A detailed overview of the NEQAP was facilitated by another director in the quality assurance department of the Federal Ministry of Education in the state, Mrs. A.O. Oladele.

Underage Cultists take over Scout Camp market Ibadan

Young cultists aged between 9 and 16 years have for long converted the Scout Camp Neighborhood, market, Ibadan, Nigeria to a place of refuge.
May 2025 Admissions on @ Miva Open University here
The under-aged cultists, comprising primary, secondary school students and drop-outs, engage in trailing and providing information on potential victims, pick-pocketing at public places, burglary in residential areas among other crimes.
The young criminals retreat to the market as a place of safety, whenever they commit crime, just as they make use of illicit substances within the precincts of the market-whre they sleep.
Sadly, owners of shops and open stalls at the market give moral and financial support to the young criminals, even though the state owned security network has an office in the market.
It is however, disturbing that traders and residents carry on as if all is well, while these criminals continue to commit various crimes with impunity.

N70,000 national minimum wage a disaster—Federal workers
- By solomon2day

- In News
Federal workers in Nigeria have described the 70,000 Naira national minimum wage as a disaster.
The workers made this assertion in a letter to President Ahmed Tinubu dated 8th April, 2025, titled WHAT IS OUR OFFENSE? FEDERAL WORKERS HAVE SUFFERED ENOUGH; THIS HARDSHIP IS UNBEARABLE; STOP THIS TORTURE, and signed by the National Coordinator (FWF), Comrade Andrew Emelieze, and Secretary General, Comrade Itoro Obong.
''Mr. President, you cannot pretend not to hear us; federal workers are calling for justice. Our well-being is not taken seriously by you. The 70,000 naira minimum wage is a ridiculous disaster; it cannot even suffice as a transportation allowance for less than five workers for a month.
We have been abandoned and neglected. The recent minimum wage is one of the testimonies of our plights. The mere fact that the benchmark for the minimum wage is N70,000 does not mean that the federal workers should be paid that minimum. Is it not a shame that some states now pay more than the federal government? The N70,000 minimum wage shows disrespect to the Nigerian workers.
It is our belief that there is a conspiracy between Mr. President and the NLC/TUC leadership to impose a poor minimum wage on workers; this is a crime against humanity. Power must not be used to suppress the people," they concluded.

Former Oyo State Governor and Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has charged comfortable Nigerians to continue to pray for and support the vulnerable and indigent in society.
Oba Ladoja gave this charge on Sunday in an interaction with news reporters at his Old Bodija home in Ibadan, Nigeria.
''Those of us who do not know what people are passing through, should use this period to not only pray for them but also assist them. Some people have been fasting before the 30-day Ramadan fast; let us continue to pray for this set of people and also support them. We should give those that do not have. We should also move away from sin; those who have moved away from sin don't go back." Oba Ladoja counseled.

Aleshinloye Market Fire-Government should equip fire service to function optimally-Chief Obi
- By solomon2day

- In News
The Onyendu Ndigbo of Ibadan and Oyo State, High Chief Alloy Obi, has called on the government to adequately equip the fire service to function effectively.
In the early hours of Wednesday, a fire gutted a section of the Aleshinloye market in Ibadan, Nigeria.
'It is regrettable that the fire incident occurred in this period of economic hardships. The government should provide all that is needed for the fire service to function optimally; it takes a long time for the fire service to respond to distress calls. The traders should not lose hope but keep on making efforts to make their lives better. I pray that the almighty God will console the traders; some borrowed money, some collected goods on credit, and this happened; it is unfortunate. The government should also assist the traders in bouncing back.''
It was reported that the fire service near the market has not been functional for the past 12 years.
On state creation, Chief Obi advised the government to consider the creation of one additional state in the South-East geopolitical zone so that it would be on par with other geopolitical zones in the country.
He, however, canvassed for the return to the regional system of government, saying, This will ensure that the regions develop at their own pace. The regions will take development more seriously. Let the center be weak and the regions strong.''

An unspecified number of residents of Ibadan, Oyo State, have, over the years, been dispossessed of their landed properties by those they look up to through dubious means.
Fraudulent government officials and judicial officials, in addition to unscrupulous law enforcement agents, have played major roles in this respect.
Indeed, those in charge have continued to formulate policies that aid the annexation of private residences.
The forgery of property documents is commonplace, even as litigation piles up in different courtrooms.
Communities in the ancient city have been overwhelmed by criminal elements, who stop at nothing to accomplish the wishes of those in charge, while those responsible for the protection of lives and property look the other way.

The need for a paradigm shift
- By solomon2day
- On 03/02/2025
- In Update with Solomon
The standards set by those with questionable characters in leadership positions in Nigeria have become tales of horror for millions of citizens wherever they find themselves.
Without a doubt, good governance can only be achieved when questionable characters are prevented from holding public offices.
Indeed, the value system has a very significant role to play in the quest for a society revolving around justice and equity.
For the Founder, Spiritual Head, and Grand Imam of the Shafaudeen-in-Islam Worldwide, Prof. Sabitu Olagoke: ''The Nigerian situation is pathetic—curb corruption and effect positive change. Make good governance work for the people. When thieves and fraudsters finally democratically take authority because criminals want power, there will be worse dictatorships than in the time of any monarchy or oligarchy (Socrates 470-399 BC).
Is this not our democracy that is lewd and driven without regard for merit or excellence, but propaganda, business, and money? We need a paradigm shift from the highest bidder syndrome to free and fair elections for democracy to respect justice and equity principles for peace and bequeathable sustainable development.''
Prof. Olagoke, who spoke at the grand finale of the Shafaudeen-in-Islam Worldwide 2025 Ishrat, also warned young Nigerians to seek wealth in legitimate ways.
''Young Nigerians must make money in a clean way. Your prolem is not Mr. President, your problem is not Mr. governors because they are all products of a bad environment. Nigeria's major problem is its salary structure. The equation of democrac is all about justice, management, peace ad sutainabe development. Nigerian workers are complaining that their saaries are poor. Nigeria is not having living wages. Nigeria's political system is virus-driven, and that virus is inequality." Prof. Olagoke submitted.
The uninspiring attitude of public office holders has, over time, attracted expressions of worry and concern across the landscape.
Deceit, lies, and manipulation are the only readily available tools of governance in this climate, just as millions of Nigerians have become disillusioned and despondent.

Terrorism-Internal cleansing is necessary-Comrade Emelieze

In most recent times, the Nigerian military has lost an unspecified number of personnel in the ceaseless fight against violent crimes.
This is disturbing.
Indeed, these heinous and grievous crimes are not abating while criminals are now so brazen and bold to confront those saddled with the responsibilities of safeguarding lives and property.
Even though those in government have, for a long time, covertly supported undesirable elements, their faceless status has not helped matters.
Mourning and condolences, which have already become a routine for public officeholders, are inadequate to reverse the ugly trend.
For the convener of the Federal Workers Forum, Comrade Andew Emelieze, the top echelon of the military should go beyond physical force to address the worrisome situation.
''The Nigerian military has sacrificed too many of its personnel in the war against insurgency. So many lives have been lost. This shows that force should not only be relied on to bring an end to insurgency. Therefore, the root cause of this evil should be identified and addressed. Nigerians should be allowed to sit down and write out a new constitution on how they want to live, to decide their relationship, without recourse to force and falsehood.'' Comrade Emelieze concluded.
The adoption of the suitale psychologial mindse, identifiying and cleansing of the moles witin and te sensitive nature of assignments over the years ave staken back seat.

Under funding of education promotes mediocrity—Prof. Olagoke
- By solomon2day

- In News
The founder, spiritual head, and grand imam of Shafaudeen in Islam Worldwide, Prof. Sabitu Olagoke, has identified the underfunding of education as the catalyst of the multifarious challenges impeding the development of Nigeria.
Prof. Olagoke made this known on Saturday at the 2025 Shafaudeen International Children's Day: Kiddies Sports and Inter School Novelty Race in Ibadan, Nigeria.
''The recent underfunding of less than 10 percent annually is highly inadequate to promote functional education. To this effect, mediocrity is promoted to breed vandalism, insecurity, quackery, fraud, sharp practices, corruption, poor governance, poverty, diseases, hunger, etc.''
He warned that good leaders could only be groomed through governance and empathy rather than sympathy, adding, The environment you give birth to your children in matters a lot. Let us go back home and put things in order. Parents on child rearing for the society would be easy when the hostile environment of Nigeria is tamed, cultured, and cured.''
In another development, a retired head of Local Government Administration (HLA), Alhaji Nurudeen Azeez, was among those given awards for their exceptional deeds.
In his brief remarks, Alhaji Azeez expressed delight on receiving the award, saying, ''I feel elated and fulfilled. I need to give thanks to the Almighty Allah and our indefatigable leader, Prof. Sabitu Olagoke, for finding me worthy to be so honored.''

Members of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) are patiently waiting for the end to the prolonged crisis in the association's leadership ranks.
The crisis that has persisted for so long revolves around self-interest and greed.
Indeed, members and others from different unions in Nigeria look up to the National Industrial Court (NIC) to put the crisis to a permanent end.
The convener of the Federal Workers Forum (FWF) and the All Workers Convergence (AWC), Comrade Andrew Emeleze, urges workers in the country to be peaceful in their conduct.
''Our hope lies in the judiciary; members should be patient and go about their lawful duties with diligence. We are full of hopes that the judiciary will bring an end to the lingering impunity and corruption in the ASCSN. Let us be patient.''Comrade Emeleize stated.
The judiciary, without doubt, will serve as a reprieve for distraught and disillushioned members, even though one of the parties to the crisis may have continued to work tirelessly to pervert justice.
Sadly, those responsible for the leadership failure, at all levels of government, may perhaps be the role models for the individuals who have brought about the prostrate condition of the labor movement in the country.
Millions of Nigerians are not only disappointed by the happenings in different parts of the country, but angry that their fellow human beings have continued to take them for granted with impunity.
Those in charge have exhausted all their available tools of repression, oppression, lies, deceit, manipulation, coercion, and violence.
Nature has set in to correct the infractions, acts of commission, and omission.

The true meaning of Discipleship

Why on earth do you think that, for his disciples, Jesus Christ chose a group of fishermen?
What particular qualities could they have possessed to equip them to share his ministry?
They seem to have been a close-knit group whom Jesus Christ had possibly known for some time.
But clearly, the moment when they decided to leave everything and follow him was deeply etched in their memory.
When Jesus said he would make them ''fishers of men,'' what expertise and experience could they bring to such a task?
Only Phillip was called by Jesus directly. The others came at the bidding of their friends and families.
Yet, when they found Jesus for themselves, it was as if he had been searching for them all along.
Nathaniel eventually found Jesus Christ, only to discover that Christ found him long before he recognized who it was pulling at his heartstrings.
