Under funding of education promotes mediocrity—Prof. Olagoke

Download 2 21The founder, spiritual head, and grand imam of Shafaudeen in Islam Worldwide, Prof. Sabitu Olagoke, has identified the underfunding of education as the catalyst of the multifarious challenges impeding the development of Nigeria.

Prof. Olagoke made this known on Saturday at the 2025 Shafaudeen International Children's Day: Kiddies Sports and Inter School Novelty Race in Ibadan, Nigeria.

''The recent underfunding of less than 10 percent annually is highly inadequate to promote functional education. To this effect, mediocrity is promoted to breed vandalism, insecurity, quackery, fraud, sharp practices, corruption, poor governance, poverty, diseases, hunger, etc.''

He warned that good leaders could only be groomed through governance and empathy rather than sympathy, adding, The environment you give birth to your children in matters a lot. Let us go back home and put things in order. Parents on child rearing for the society would be easy when the hostile environment of Nigeria is tamed, cultured, and cured.''

In another development, a retired head of Local Government Administration (HLA), Alhaji Nurudeen Azeez, was among those given awards for their exceptional deeds.

In his brief remarks, Alhaji Azeez expressed delight on receiving the award, saying, ''I feel elated and fulfilled. I need to give thanks to the Almighty Allah and our indefatigable leader, Prof. Sabitu Olagoke, for finding me worthy to be so honored.''
